The LaLiga giants have made arrangements for the unveiling of the French superstar at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, which will be inspired by Taylor Swift.
Kylian Mbappé officially became a Real Madrid player on July 1 and is expected to be unveiled by the LaLiga giants on Tuesday July 16, two days after the Euro 2024 final. Whether France play in it or not, Madrid are officially planning to parade their new ‘galáctico’ to the media on that date.
How Real Madrid plan to unveil Kylian Mbappé
If Les Blues lose to Portugal in the quarterfinals on Friday (July 5), or to either Spain or Germany in the semifinals on Tuesday July 9, Mbappé will be able to enjoy a short holiday (and have his broken nose fixed), during which time he would make a quick pit stop in Madrid to have a medical on the morning of 16 July, before being unveiled in the afternoon at 7pm local time (1pm ET / 10 am PT).
As you might expect, Madrid have grand plans to show everyone that they have finally got their man. “It will be the most spectacular unveiling of a soccer player in history,” say sources at the club. Mbappé, who has signed a contract until 2029, will have no doubt about how important he is to his new employers from day one.
The Frenchman will make his way from inside the ‘new’ Estadio Santiago Bernabéu out onto the field via a walkway, dressed in Real Madrid’s new kit for the 2024/25 season. 80,000 fans are expected to attend the event to get their first glimpse of the Frenchman wearing his No. 9 jersey.
Perhaps not the one he would’ve wanted, admittedly, but the 25-year-old will have to wait at least a year to get his hands on his favourite number 10, which still belongs to club legend Luka Modric.
Mbappé set for Taylor Swift welcome
The aforementioned walkway will connect the tunnel to a stage that will be set up in front of the ‘Fondo Norte’ (the North Stand). That means Mbappé’s entrance, which will also include WWE-style pyrotechnics, will be similar to Taylor Swift’s when she performed in the Spanish capital just a few weeks ago.
Live music will be played from just in front of the stage, with guests and fans enjoying the action both on the (covered) field and in three of the stands. Just as if it were a concert.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez will act as the master of ceremonies, accompanied by honorary president, and club legend, Pirri.
The Bernabéu’s new 360º video scoreboard will show a montage of Mbappé’s career to date, the highlight of which has been France’s 2018 World Cup victory. Fireworks, and several other “surprises,” are also on the agenda. Tune in on July 16 to find out what they are.
